Cloud Nothings – Here and Nowhere Else

If you love the patron saints of gritty indie rock (Pavement, Pixies, etc.) and had a punk phase as a teenager, you will probably love Cloud Nothings.  Their savage lo-fi assault may not be for the masses but nestled in the noise is an indelibly nuanced craftsmanship.  Like its slightly more accessible predecessor Attack On Memory, Cloud Nothing’s fourth LP Here and Nowhere Else took a couple months to really grow on me but my time with this record has been well spent. Compared to Attack on Memory, the builds are more progressive and the payoffs have more teeth but there is still a melodic indie sensibility through even the most ferocious moments of the album.  Poppy hooks be damned; this is beast of a album.
