Everything about this movie should be bad. Its a independent mockumentary about vampires. But from the first 30 seconds of What We Do In The Shadows, its hard not to fall in love. A hand nervously creeps out of a coffin to turn off an alarm clock set for 6:00PM. From the vampire house rules to their awkward encounters with werewolves, Shadows never loses its pacing and its jokes certainly don’t lose any steam. This is one of my favorite films of the year so far.
I burned through the first season of Daredevil on Netflix in a few days. Partly because its darkly entertaining, but mostly because I work from home and its still too cold outside. Daredevil has finally done what we all have wanted for many years: set a comic book character in a R-rated environment. Imagine what The Dark Knight would’ve been like if it weren’t PG-13?! Daredevil is roughly what you would get, and its a welcomed change of pace. The acting is fine, story is decent, but the true accomplishment lies in its fight choreography. Check out this one-take masterpiece, which will most likely be the only thing I remember about this show in the coming months.
